Original Item: One-of-a-kind. The NSDAP or Nationalsozialistische Deutsche ArbeiterPartei, (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), was originally founded in Munich as the DAP, Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (German Worker’s Party), on January 5TH 1919. When Adolf AH joined the DAP in the autumn of 1919 he was to reform what was basically a debating society into an active political party. Appointed as the first chairman of the party on July 29TH 1921, AH was to restructure it along para-military lines in a hierarchy.
Brown was to become the official color of the N.S.D.A.P. and S.A. by circumstance rather than design. A large stockpile of discounted, surplus WWI tropical brown shirts and fabric, intended for wear in East Africa, were located in Austria in 1924 and purchased by the NSDAP as a temporary measure to bring uniformity of dress to their party members. In November of 1926 the brown shirt was officially introduced, and retained, as the basic uniform item for the N.S.D.A.P. and S.A., and was eventually adopted by other political organizations such as the H.J., D.A.F., and the N.S.K.K..
This is a very nice early example of a German WWII Political "Brown Shirt" pullover style uniform tunic, sometimes called a "summer shirt". These were lightweight and similar to the shirts used by the Wehrmacht, except they are in the classic brown color used by the various political and paramilitary organizations during the third reich era. It still has the original stitching and pins holding it folded, and shows no evidence of ever having been used. It does not have any buttons except for on the collar, as the the buttons to be used would be determined by the organization it was issued to. We assume it would use buttons with circlip type fasteners.
The tunic is marked with 932 01002 75 inside collar, which we assume is some type of catalog number, as it definitely does not appear to contain size information. The handwritten label stitched to the top of the front closure is unfortunately not really legible, but we assume it identifies the type of shirt, or maybe where it was put into inventory. Below this is the RZM tag, which is marked with the correct (RZM) logo next to Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP, and has lot number P № 160889 over Hersteller (supplier) number D 8/60491. As it is still pinned and stitched together, we have not been able to determine what size it is.
A great unissued example of a German WWII Era political shirt, ready to add to your collection!Â
