Original Item: Only One Available. Fitted with a single-edged spear point blade, this is an original German WWII Nahkampfmesser close fighting knife, with steel scabbard. This basic design was used by Imperial German in WWI, and was popular during WWII as well. Many WWI knives were even reissued for WWII, however this definitely is a WWII production example, indicated by the shape and style of the grips.
In very good good service-used condition, this knife has a smooth wooden grip secured by three steel rivets. Grip scales are in very good condition, with no major cracks or chips, and a nice color with some light staining from use. The blade is full length on the bottom of the blade, while the top has a false edge, which has correctly not been sharpened. The main edge however has been sharpened multiple times, changing the shape somewhat and reducing the blade length just a bit. There is also a bit of a bend near the tip of hte blade. Overall length is now 10 3/8 inches with a 5 7/8 inch blade, and we were not able to find any maker marking on the knife, which is not uncommon.
The original WWII scabbard is in good service used condition, with the original finish almost completely missing, now showing an oxidized patina overall, with a bit of rust scaling in areas. The scabbard body is still straight and dent free, and the spring steel belt clip is in very good shape, with a bit less oxidation than the rest of the scabbard.
A lovely example of a WWII Trench Fighting Knife, with some great period wear. Ready to display!
