The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. This is an interesting Pre-WWI era brass railway oil lantern, which shows a very high level of construction. Constructed of stamped and bent sheet brass, this lantern has windows on 3 sides, with all three windows having sliding covers, and the central window having two sliding hatches for signaling. These could also be used to help avoid detection if it were to be pressed into service during wartime.

The burner is still present with in intact wick, though we do not know if it is functional. There is verdigris on the brass, and it does look like the original reflector is missing, which would have been in the slot on the inside rear behind the burner. The doors still all function well, and there is no maker mark. The oil reservoir and burner can be pulled out when the front door is opened. There is an advance knob for the wick that connects to the knob under the left side sliding cover, however it is currently out of alignment. The top handle does not fold down, but can easily be removed for storage.

A great example, ready for further research and display.
