Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition, turn of the century pickelhaube-style German Fire helmet, with a boiled leather body, brass front plate (wappen), brass central comb, and brass fittings. The central plate has a star with the initials FF under a crown in the center. We could not identify what state or city this wappen represents, a good research project.
Full leather lining is still mostly intact with only the top string retained. The chinstrap is thick leather which is mostly retained and still buckled, but the end has broken off as shown.. The sides are retained by two brass bosses.
Condition overall is very good, and this configuration was typical of the 1890-1910 period. The interior crown has two original comb anchors secured under the bolts for the top comb. There are no other markings inside the helmet, but there is period newspaper stuffed under the liner for extra padding!
This is an unusual and very attractive item. Offered in very good condition. Size is not marked but we estimate it to be 54-56 cm.
