The Story

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is the war chronicle service document of Infantryman Johann Baier, 13th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, who was killed in action near St. Mihiel on September 23rd, 1914, very shortly after the war began. These were put together after the war to commemorate the service of Imperial German soldiers as a reminder of their time serving the empire, and this one was put together for a soldier who had died 4 years earlier.

Born in 1884, he served with the 13rd Bavarian from 1904 to 1906. At the outbreak of the war, he again served with the 13th Bavarian, fighting between the Meuse and Moselle. He was killed in action on September 23rd, 1914. The photo of him is pre-war and shows him in civilian clothes, as he likely didn’t serve long enough in the war to have a photo taken.

The frame measures 18½ x 22½” and is in good condition overall. This is a really great document, one of the nicest we’ve seen. Comes ready for further research and display
