The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting Imperial German Police short sword with an original scabbard and troddel knot.  The blade is 21 5/8” long with an overall length of 26 5/8”.

The ricasso under the rain chape is stamped with the trademark "Knight's Helmet" (Ritter-helm) logo of legendary maker Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie of Solingen, over the firms initials of WKC. This company is a famous manufacturer of military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany - a city famous since the middle ages for its metal-working and craftsmanship in sword making. Per J. Anthony Carter's fine work GERMAN SWORD AND KNIFE MAKERS, the traditional manufacturing of swords at WKC dates back to the year 1774 when the Weyersberg first registered the ''Kings head'' as their trademark. Later in 1883 the company merged with the Kirschbaums and the company WKC was formed as it exists today.

The hilt bears a wire-wrapped black celluloid grip, but the wire wrap is now very loose and disorganized. The original leather blade buffer is retained. The blade shows some heavy oxidation along the edge and the very tip is now a bit bent.

The original Troddel sword knot is wrapped around the guard as shown, with white and blue colors. It is heavily worn but fully retained.

The 22 ⅛” scabbard is in good condition with a very long frog button and heavy wear to the leather.

A very interesting Imperial German sword, ready for further research and display.
