The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This German Military bugle is of all brass construction with nickel silver fittings, typical of German brass instruments. This example is dated 1914, and witnessed almost all of the First World War. There is very heavy denting across the bugle, especially in the outer tubing, but both suspension rings are intact. The German Silver bell krantz is still in very good condition, though it is pushed up a bit due to dents to the rim of the bell, which has a clear brazing seam on the bottom side.

There is a mouthpiece that came with the bugle, but it looks to be seized inside a brass tube. There is also another metal tube that we can see stuck inside the leadpipe of the bugle, which could possibly be the remains of a broken off mouthpiece.

The Prussian Arms in an Oval shield displays a Spread Eagle wearing a Crown with F.R. to center, with the eagle carrying a Sword and a Scepter in either claw. This is soldered onto the bell as standard. The bugle is stamped under the Prussian arms:

J. ALTRICHTER
FRANKFURT.O
1914

This bugle is one of the rougher examples we have seen, but is certainly a battle-torn example. It looks to be made entirely of seamed brass tubing, but there is very heavy denting.

A romantic item from the terrible First World War, ready to display.
