The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of a late WWI Imperial German Private Purchase Crusher Cap with a bendable visor & , one of the most iconic pieces of headgear to come out of the Great War! This is the first example of this style cap we have had the pleasure of offering!
The cap features the classic German “Crusher” shape. It has a lovely padded crown with a feldgrau body & Ponceaurot (poppy red) wool band and piping, which indicate that it was for an infantry soldier. The front of the cap bears a Black, White and Red Reichskokarde (Imperial Cockade) on the front of the crown, with a Black and White Cockade on the cap band for the Kingdom of Prussia.
The visor is a soft and malleable leather which is still able to be “crushed”. This example was absolutely meant to be kept in the pocket when not in use. The interior shows a great worn leather sweatband with good stitching retention.Â
This is an outstanding and scarce Prussian crusher cap, with good service wear and a real “been there” look. This is the most attractive WWI Crusher cap we have offered. The cap comes ready for further research and display.
