Original Item: Only One Available: This is a gorgeous visor cap for a Royal Italian Army General Officer. The front eagle badge is a thick silver bullion weave that is shockingly rich and deep with an equally lovely crown above. This is amazing work with a lovely, still bright, red wool backing. The cap band is also of lovely bullion work with some mothing to the band itself as shown.
The interior of the cap has a supple leather sweatband, perfect stitching and a clean sweatband undamaged both inside and out. There is no size label present but the visor is approximately 56cm. Really a terrific cap would fit into the most advanced Fascist collection. Also features a maker mark that reads:
UNIONE MILITARE
ROMA
There is paper stuffed into the crown to give it shape. A great cap, ready for further research and display.
The Italian Royal Army was reformed in 1861 and lasted until 1946. The Royal Army started with the unification of Italy (Risorgimento) and the formation of the Kingdom of Italy (Regno d'Italia). It ended with the dissolution of the monarchy. The Royal Army was preceded by the individual armies of the various independent Italian states and was followed by the Italian Army (Esercito Italiano) of the Italian Republic (Repubblica Italiana).
