The Story

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a great Japanese ammunition crate with a canvas-covered lid which was captured and sent home by Private First Class Lowell E. Denning, who painted his information and mail-home address on the side of the crate. The crate measures roughly 31½ x 9½ x 13½” and is in good shape overall.

The crate sits on two small attached boards but one of the two has come off and was placed in the crate. The lid of the crate has a nailed-in canvas cover which shows tearing and fraying as shown. Both heavy rope carrying straps are retained, rare to see! The side of the crate is painted:

P.F.C. DENNING 38671707 APO 445
â„… QM SAN FRANCISCO CALIF.
MR. FRED WAKE
STOCKDALE
TEXAS

Both latches are retained on the crate, and the underside of the lid retains some Japanese arsenal markings, included the upside-down 8 in a circle denoting Nagoya Arsenal.

The crate has some heavy damage overall but is still solid. This is a fantastic send-home item, ready for further research and display!
