Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely, worn example of a scarce Ersatz papercloth officer's forage cap. They are made of a very coarse cloth, which looks to be very similar to the "papercloth" used on WWI German "Ersatz" canteen covers. They are not soft, and the interior is made of the same material woven differently. The sweatband looks to be pressed paper faux leather, as does the chin strap on the front of the cap. This example has very heavy service wear.
The front features a lovely metal five-pointed imperial Japanese star cap badge directly attached to the cap. The chinstrap is missing on this example. The sweatband has quite a bit of cracking to it and has degraded from wear and time, but it retains a label! There is also a faint ink stamp on the interior crown.
A great & scarce example, ready for further research and display.
