The Story

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a tremendous Japanese medical trunk which was used during World War II and captured by Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class Paul J. Salzman, Fourth Medical Battalion, Service Troops, Fourth Marine Division Fleet Marine Force.

The trunk measures 10¾ x 23 x 14¾” and has Red Crosses to each side. The Japanese Kanji to the lid translates to “Emergency Medical Treatment Box”. The trunk is stenciled to the front:

P.J. SALZMAN PHM 3/C

This identifies the trunk as having been captured by Pharmacist’s Mate 3rd Class Paul J. Salzman, Fourth Medical Battalion, Service Troops, Fourth Marine Division Fleet Marine Force. The trunk retains its carry handle which may be pressed paper, but it is very worn and we would not recommend carrying it by this strap.

A tremendous captured trunk, ready for further research and display!
