The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very interesting Japanese trunk which is well-inscribed on the lid, reading Gas-Proof Clothing / Repair Tools, indicating that it originally stored chemical protection clothing & repair tools for said clothing. Given the construction of the trunk, we believe this to be for use by civilians in a bombing raid-vulnerable area.
The trunk measures roughly 27 x 14 x 11â and is in fair condition overall, with some breakage at the bottom and in spots on the lid. One of the two latches that secure the trunk is gone. There are straps attached to the interior, the purpose of which we are unsure. Both of the metal carrying handles to the sides of the trunk are intact.
A really tremendous wartime trunk with a macabre usage, perfect for any Japanese WWII collection. Comes ready for further research and display.
