The Story
Original Items: Only One Available. This is a genuine Japanese World War II 50mm Mortar, Type 89 grenade with a Type 88 instantaneous fuze. Features original paint with a yellow band on the body and a red band at the top.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The fuze retains the spring in the nose, and is stamped with several Japanese characters. The brass fuze housing itself is dated: 5 八 十 昭. This marking is written right to left, and would be read: SHOWA (current reigning emperor) Juu-Hachi Nen (18th year of reign - 1943), and the 5th month of May.
This Japanese model 89 knee mortar round has several small arsenal symbols punched into the side along with other markings, making it a very desirable example. The body is slightly worn with great paint retention. There is a white marking on the side, 1812 (Symbol). Measures 2 inches wide 5.75 inches in overall height, and the bottom propellant cup charge unscrews for inspection of the interior. The pin is intact along with the pull string.
A great slightly-worn example of the Type 89 Mortar round, ready to display!
