Original Late 18th Century European 22-Pounder Bronze Howitzer from the Royal Armory of Nepal with Wooden Fortress Mount

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic totally original late 18th century - early 19th century 22-pounder bronze howitzer, mounted on a modern static wood fortress mount for display purposes. It measures approximately 23 1/2 inches in overall length from the end of the cascabel to the muzzle and has a 5.66" bore indicating that it is an 22-pounder Culverin per the Tower of London Classification of Bore Diameter chart. The Howitzer (not a mortar as the trunions are in the center of the tube whereas a mortar has the trunions located at the base of the tube) is constructed of solid bronze and weighs approximately 350 lbs.

This howitzer tube was recovered in Kathmandu Nepal in 2003. It was part of a large cache of British military surplus firearms and artillery. Due to the bronze construction and style of manufacturer, it is definitely of European origin, probably British or French. Most likely any markings were left off to obscure the origin. It is offered in very good condition and is structurally sound. The touch hole is not spiked and remains small (not shot out), and the interior is clean and undamaged, with the powder chamber at the rear still crisply defined. The design features five bands and a raised touch hole with centered trunions, a swamped muzzle and cascabel.

The howitzer has not been polished nor cleaned and retains most of the patina and stains from its approximate 200+ years of existence. Originating from the British garrison in Kathmandu, Nepal where it has laid for at least the last 200+ years.
