The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. Most probably belonging to a Moro Chieftain, known as a "datu", this style of dagger is known as a Moro Datu Punal. The word punal literally translates in Spanish to "dagger" and is a result of colonization. It has a wonderful condition 7½" double edged steel blade and a heavily figured curved mahogany hilt.

However, the beauty of the dagger is all in its Silver mounts, which are expertly ornamented. Half the hilt and all the cross guard are made of heavy silver. The wood scabbard has heavy silver mounts to both Chape and Locket, again both with engraving designs. The top mount is a bit loose, and the central mount appears to be brass.

A very solid high quality dagger over 160 years of age in lovely condition, ready to display.

Specifications:
Blade Length: 7½"
Overall length: 11¼”
Crossguard: 1 3/4”
Scabbard Length: 7 1/2”
