Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Set. This is an outstanding set of maps used by Germany during World War II, during two specific periods. The first map is a Polish-made map of Warsaw which has period annotations including mentions of the “61 Div” and “11 Div”. Both the 11th and 61st Divisions of the Wehrmacht took part in the Invasion of Poland in September 1939, and that is certainly what this map is referring to. The back of this map also has the name “Warsaw” inscribed in German. This first map measures 31½ x 37¼” and does have some tape repairs from damage, but it is a historically significant map with heavy annotations, and should be framed.
The second map is an interesting set of two Soviet-made maps of Eastern Europe, namely Ukraine around the area of Zaporozhye. The two maps were taped together, and measure 30 x 59” in this combined state. There are also annotations on this map including a route drawn with dates next to specific areas, and these appear to be referring to the 1941 Battle of Kiev, with the city of Zaporozhye having had its river crossing captured by the 9th Panzer Division on August 19th.
Both maps are in good condition with heavy folding as is standard on maps like this. As mentioned, the larger map is made from two maps put together.
A tremendous lot of two historically significant maps, ready for framing and display!
“The 11th Infantry Division participated in the Invasion of Poland as part of the I Army Corps under 3rd Army. The I Army Corps, next to 11th Infantry Division, also featured the 61st Infantry Division and Panzer Division Kempf.”
