The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is an exceptional piece of history! It's a rather rare, original Pre to Early World War One era Austrian-Hungarian Cavalry Saber. The sword is adorned with a beautifully designed half-basket guard that features a lovely wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. This sword is a true treasure and would make a valuable addition to any collection of historical artifacts.
The 30” nickel-plated blade is marked on the ricasso:
SOLINGER
STAHL
The other side is marked:
Wn. (Austrian Proof Mark) ‘18
The nickel-plating of the blade is heavily worn with spots of heavy oxidation and loss, as well as the usual runner wear. The hilt has similar peppering of the finish.
The scabbard of this example is in good condition, though it does show a lot of past surface oxidation on the plated exterior. It has the standard single hanger ring, and fits the sword well.
Overall a highly attractive sword from the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, ready to research display!
Specifications:
Blade Length: 30”
Overall Length: 36 1/4”
Scabbard Length: 31”
