The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a lovely Pre WWII German Coal Trade Association bronze and black marble table plaque from Leipzig, the largest city in the Saxony region of Germany. The design features a 2 5/16" x 3 1/4" cast bronze plate about 3/32" thick, which shows a coal handler loading coal into a furnace, presumably to feed a boiler. It is mounted to a piece of black marble measuring 3 1/2" x 5 3/8" x 3/4", which has a leatherette pad on the bottom. The bottom of the bronze plate is engraved as follows:
DEUTSCHE
KOHLENHANDELS GESELLSCHAFT m.b.H.
LEIPZIG
This translates to "German Coal Trading Association, Leipzig", and most likely this is an award given out for meeting production goals during the pre-war era. As Germany moved towards full rearmament and war, the NSDAP actively incentivized increased production through various trade organizations such as the DAF and NSBO. The plaque weighs 1.4lbs, and is in very good condition, showing a few dents to the bronze plate, and some chipping of the marble base. Ready to research and display!
