Original Slovakian WWII M39 Hlinka Guard Dagger with Scabbard - Slovak SS

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great example of an extremely scarce WWII Slovakian Hlinka Guard Dagger. The Hlinka Guard has often been called the “Slovak SS” due to having been trained by the German SS to provide internal military police duties in Slovakia. This was a very small group, roughly 3500 men, making this a scarce example.

This example is in overall fair condition, the only serious flaw being that the fuller on both sides of the blade appears to have been made wider somehow. The dagger features a carbon steel blade with a wide central fuller running the majority of the length of each side of the blade. The number “91” is stamped onto the obverse ricasso.

The blade sits securely within a multi-piece hilt with a gilded bronze crossguard, the obverse of which is stamped with initials “HG” (“Hlinkova garda/Hlinka Guard). The handle is composed of a single piece of lacquered dark brown wood. It completes with a gilded bronze pommel which takes the form of a minimalist eagle’s head with a hooked beak which, in combination with the curved handle and hooked crossguard, provides a secure and comfortable grip. There is some wear to the eagle-head but nothing serious.

The dagger is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft. Bronze fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat, with a loop emanating from the latter for the accommodation of a hanger.

This is an unbelievably scarce dagger, ready for further research and display.
