The Story

Original Item. Only One Pair Available. This is an outstanding pair of buckles which may have been brought back by an American soldier serving in Cuba or the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. These M1886 Spanish belt buckles would have been worn by Spanish Infantry serving in-theater during the war.

The first bucket depicts an infantry horn with a crossed matchlock rifle and sword under a crown. This likely denotes general infantry but we cannot say for sure. This buckle retains the small catch piece on the back of the buckle.

The second buckle depicts an infantry horn with two letters inside the loop, either ss or jj, the meaning of which we are unsure. A great research project!

Both buckles show heavy service wear and oxidation with one showing a bit of denting. A lovely lot of buckles, both purchased from Bannerman’s in roughly 1955, giving them great provenance as original pieces. Comes ready for further research and display!
