The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a fine example of a crude American-made socket bayonet in the Brown Bess style, dating to the 1770s. There are no existing markings and the construction is rather crude, perfect for this period and for early American manufacture. It was certainly American-made for a Brown Bess musket, which they used extensively during the war.
The bayonet features a 16½” blade and an overall length of 20¾”. There are no markings, correct for a wartime American manufacture. There is some oxidation across the piece but the blade is still straight and in great order. A fantastic example, ready for further research and display.
Specifications:-
Blade Length: 16½”
Blade Style: Socket
Overall length: 20¾”
