The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a fine pitted example of a crude American-made socket bayonet in the Brown Bess style, dating to the 1770s. There are no existing markings and the construction is rather crude, perfect for this period and for early American manufacture. It was certainly American-made for a Brown Bess musket, which they used extensively during the war.

This example came to us from the Larry Thomas American Edged Weapon Museum in Intercourse, Pennsylvania, further cementing its authenticity and prestige.

There is heavy pitting across the bayonet but its form is straight and the socket is in good order. The bayonet features a 16 ½” blade and is 21 ⅝” overall. There are no markings, correct for a wartime American manufacture. The very end hole of the socket is .9, while the other end is .86.

A very attractive example. Ready for further research and display.
