Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service-worn example of an early American-Made Militia rifleman’s bag with a period correct powder horn and powder measure in the bag. The leather of the bag shows heavy period repairing with several great red felt lining to the interior. The bag has a great number of metal grommets in the construction for the attachment of “accessories”, and indeed the powder horn is attached to the bag by two leather straps which are looped through these grommets.
The rifleman’s bag is of the correct period construction. The front has an intact flap which shows heavy tattering and breakage, with some tearing along its edges, and the red felt lining to the interior shows good period wear. The leather strap is in good shape with good stitching.
The powder horn is a good example, 10 1/2” in length with the original wooden plug retained and in good order. It is attached to the bag via two small leather straps which loop through some of the grommets.
The powder measure and the accompanying wooden stick are in good order and are certainly period. They were found inside the bag.
This is a lovely but very worn set that requires some love and care. A great Revolutionary War era rifleman’s set, ready for further research and display.
