Original U.S. / British Early Revolutionary War era Colonial Blacksmith Hand Forged Large Trade Tomahawk Style Axe With Original Handle & Maker Marking - F.H.

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a remarkable and authentic piece of history - a large trade tomahawk style axe that was likely made by a British or American blacksmith during the 18th century. The tomahawk's head is in great condition despite some minor pitting, and appears to be with its original or an older replaced shaft. The blade is designed for cutting and chopping, and was likely used for tasks such as felling small trees, building structures and making firewood. The handle appears to have been with the head for a very long time, being extremely tight despite cracking in the shaft.

The length of the head of the tomahawk measures approximately 8 1/2 inches with an edge width of 3 ¾ inches, while the handle is about 30 1/8 inches long. There are some small chips in the edge. There is a blacksmith marking present that reads 'F.H. (E)’ although we have not been able to find any reliable information regarding this marking. Both sides of the head show heavy period nicks/slashes in the finish. A good research project.
