Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous example of a Confederate tin drum canteen composed of two slightly concaved halves soldered to a circular band. This piece closely matches examples of Confederate canteens from each theater of the Civil War.Â
All seams appear to be intact and strongly connected. Â Attached are three tin canteen sling loops (sling not present) and a spout with a cork stopper now stuck in the channel. We have not attempted to remove it due to the fragility of the cork.
Some light oxidation is present around the outer edges as shown, where interior and exterior moisture is most apt to collect. One side of the canteen has heavy denting as shown. The canteen measures roughly 6 ¾” in diameter and is about 2 ¾” wide at the concaves. The sling loops are all in good order and the solder marks are very solid.
This is a really well-preserved example of a scarce Confederate tin drum canteen, ready for further research and display!
