The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great example of a Civil War Federal Issue Enlisted Man’s Model 1839 Belt Buckle with a scarce “Arrow Back”. The buckle has very heavy wear and some strange paper residue on the back, so it could use a minor cleaning.Â
The buckle has later wartime pattern brass "arrowhead" style attachment studs on the reverse. The plate measures measures approximately 3 3/8” x 2 1/8”.
The condition is good and was not excavated (not dug up). This die-stuck specimen has the large raised letters "US" on the face and exhibits a heavily worn dark bronze patina overall. The backside of the plate, complete with its brass hooks all intact, is lead filled and in good condition with some residue as shown.Â
Ready for further research and display.
