The Story

Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Lot. This is a really great Civil War Soldier personal item lot, consisting of several pieces that could be found in a Civil War soldier’s kit and belongings. Some items are military, and some are civilian items often used by soldiers.

The items include:
- Large soldier’s drinking cup, 5” tall and 4” in diameter. The cup has some oxidation as shown and is scratched on both sides with the owner’s initials, H.M..
- Sixth Plate Tintype photograph of husband and wife in civilian attire housed in half of a thermoplastic case. Great shot, but shows heavy wear.
- Small civilian two-piece belt buckle with American eagle, crude period example.
- Small velvet pad with three U.S. bullets held in place by wire. These three bullets were recovered at Gettysburg as noted on the back.
- Civil War Officer’s Frock coat button backmarked to W.G. Mintzer of Philadelphia. Some verdigris.
- One of the tins for a cartridge box.
- Soldier’s fork and knife, knife has a lovely worn bone grip.
- Bullet mold marked 74 for the caliber. Good shape and still functional.
- Brass Saber pendant fitting.
- M1851 belt buckle catch.
- Small 2” ball projectile, possibly from a canister shot.

An outstanding lot of Civil War items, ready for further research and display!
