The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. The HGU-39/P is a chemical, biological, oxygen helmet and mask used in the 1980s. The basis of the HGU-39/P is an SPH-4 helmet without the visor cover. Cast aluminum oxygen mask receivers and Air Force communication components complete the basic helmet. A chemical hood can also be laced over the helmet and mask. This example was used as a flight helmet with a dual visor attached.Â
This is a good moderately-used example of the HGU-39/P flight helmet with a dual-visor attached at the top. There are headphones, and the helmet retains its data tag:
HELMET, FLYER’S HGU-39/P
SIZE: REGULAR
STOCK NO. 8415-01-040-3127
CONTRACT DLA100-78-C-0898
LOT NO. -17-
SUPPLIER GENTEX CORP.
The dual visor assembly is missing one of the four screws that holds it in place and the underlying material is starting to fall out. The visors still deploy without issue.Â
A lovely example in the original box, ready for further research and display.
