The Story
Original Item. Only One Available. Here we have a great example of an early American Flintlock Pocket Pistol, fully silver mounted except for the engraved brass trigger guard, and totally unmarked on either the lock or barrel. It is made in the characteristic American Colonial style, and features lovely silver decorations on both sides, as well as on the butt of the grip. The lock side plate is silver, as are the escutcheons for the barrel pin.
This example is in very good condition, showing a lovely aged patina overall, though we can definitely see that past oxidation and cleaning have made the engraved designs on the barrel and lock plate somewhat faint over the past 200+ years. The 3 5/8" long 0.39" caliber barrel is two stage, octagonal near the breech, changing to round about 1/3 of the length. The pistol measures about 8 inches in overall length, perfect for a pocket. The lock is an early design without a frizzen support bridle, and functional, though it will fire at half cock with a heavy trigger pull.
Overall condition is just lovely, with the silver adornments still mostly bright and shiny, showing some very nice engraving around the edges, even on the butt cap. This would make a great addition to any Early American firearms collection. Ready to research and display!
