The Story
Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a very interesting Revolutionary War era socket bayonet which has what is called a “screw socket” where the bayonet is affixed to the musket with a screw on the side. There is a small hole in the side of the socket.
The blade on this example is truly a blade, differing from bayonets of the period. The blade is roughly 10” long with an overall length of 12½”, one of the smallest bayonets from this period we’ve seen.
The bayonet shows heavy pitting across with heavy nicks in the edge of the blade. The pattern of the metal on the back of the blade is quite interesting and shows the flaws in manufacture of the period.
One of the most interesting socket bayonets we have offered, ready for further research and display.
Specifications:
Blade Length: 10"
Blade Style: Socket
Overall length: 12½“
