The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very scarce example of an early 19th century militia shako or cap plate, measuring 3 3/4″ X 4 5/8″. This example retains the two soldered-on iron loops to the reverse, and has a heavily tarnished patina overall.

This example features the American Federal eagle clutching an olive branch and lightning, with a shield reading 1776 below him. Over the eagle is UNITY IS STRENGTH with the sunburst pattern and thirteen stars overhead.

This would’ve been used by militiamen during the Seminole War era leading into the Mexican-American War.

A gorgeous plate, the first of its kind we have offered. Comes ready for further research and display.
