The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very scarce piece. It is a Pre WWI, Spanish-American War dated U.S. M1892 bayonet, made for the Springfield Model 1892–99 Krag-Jørgensen rifles, some of which were still in use during WWI. It is fitted with its original all steel first pattern scabbard with a swivel belt loop on the back. These are very rarely seen on today's market, especially with the scabbard included and fully intact.

The "Krag" was the U.S. Army's first repeating rifle, and the M1892 bayonet was based on the Swiss M1889 bayonet, made for use on the 7.5 mm. M1889 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull bolt-action rifle.

This example is in great condition, with the original bright finish and only a few small isolated areas of staining. Blade shows signs of sharpening, and of honest use, most likely in a tropical environment. The 1892 pattern grips are in good condition with just a few dents and chips, with a bit of material loss on one side, and are held in place by domed rivets. The wood does show some wear and open grain.

The blade is marked 1897 on one side, and US on the other, and has a fully functional bayonet catch. The hilt shows just the right patina, and the blade is near flawless. The scabbard is in very good condition, with a blued finish, and a fully functional swivel, the first pattern. The swivel is still in great order. The scabbard body is straight with some surface rust.

This is an excellent example for being 130 years old! An extremely desirable year for this bayonet! Comes ready for display.
