The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. During the Vietnam War, U.S. forces primarily used CS gas (o-chlorobenzylidene malononitrile), which had replaced the older agent CN (chloroacetophenone). Both are riot control agents, but CS was considered more potent and less toxic than CN. Chloroacetophenone (CN) was used in Vietnam, though less extensively than CS, primarily by South Vietnamese forces. Like all deactivated ordnance, this grenade is Not Available for Export.

This is a scarce Chloroacetophenone grenade used during the Vietnam War. It is marked on the side with a red stripe and:

GAS
CN
LOT RMD 8833-13 2-58

This likely denotes a date of February 1958. The fuze is marked:

FUZE
M201A1
NY7169-34

Both the top and bottom appear to have some sort of resin sealant applied. Comes ready for further research and display.
