The Story
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of a souvenir tour jacket from the Vietnam War Era. These jackets were often requested to be made as a memento for a Soldiers’ time in country, usually made from already existing uniforms and or material. This example is a great double-side Sukajan. It can be worn normally or inside out, with embroidered designs on both sides.
The back of the jacket reads JAPAN with a lovely embroidered dragon. The front features embroidered dragons on both sides with a white & blue trim on the top and bottom of the jacket. When turned inside out, the jacket is red with birds, likely sparrows on the front in place of the dragons, with a large sparrow on a branch surrounded by flowers on the back. The trim is red & white on this side. There are two pockets on the front and two on the interior, so there are always pockets whichever way it is turned.Â
This is a gorgeous piece of period vintage clothing likely worn and brought back by a G.I. to commemorate his time on leave in Japan during the war. There are some small tears at the seams showing heavy use during the period. This is a great souvenir piece, ready for further research and display!
