The Story

Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the extensive photography & ephemera grouping of SP5 Kim McNeely, who served in the 1st Infantry Division Artillery during the Vietnam War. We couldn’t find any information on McNeely’s service, making for a good research project. The group includes his Boonie hat, his in country-made pistol holster, medals & captured currency, with a photo album and collection of loose photos including seven very graphic images of soldiers dragging and piling dead bodies of Vietnamese soldiers & civilians.

The group consists of:

- McNeely’s boonie hat which retains the interior washing label. Chinstrap is also retained, and stiffener is still intact. Roughly a size 7.
- McNeely’s custom in-country made holster rig with the original straps, likely made from water buffalo hide. Not sure what pistol it would have housed, but it is in fair shape with the leather still pliable. The front flap is gone if there ever was one, but it may have just been a strap which is now gone.
- McNeely’s National Defense & Vietnam War Medals with their original boxes, but the boxes are in rough shape.
- 1st Infantry Division patch.
- Two Banknotes from South-East Asian countries.
- Photo album (front and back cover are broken off) with roughly 75 photographs showcasing Vietnamese landscape, 10+ photographs of guns he used overseas including the M60 Machine Gun, M79 Grenade launcher, AK47, M16A1, Browning .50 Cal, Mk. II Grenade and 40mm grenade, some Huey helicopter shots, etc.
- Roughly 150-200 loose photographs including shots of tanks being lifted from the water, machinery, Vietnamese landscapes, rice paddys, photos on military bases, photos of McNeely and his comrades, etc. Some are inscribed on the back but most are not. There are various sizes of photos.
- 7 Graphic photographs depicting American soldiers dragging bodies of Vietnamese people and piling them. The soldiers carry M14 rifles and M2 Carbines.

This is a tremendous group with fantastic imagery, making for a great research project. Comes ready for further research and display.
