Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is the lovely ephemera grouping of Private First Class Frank Blum, Company G, 146th Infantry Regiment, 37th Division, American Expeditionary Forces. Some of the items may have been added later, but the majority are certainly linked to Blum.
The grouping includes:
- Frank Blum’s dog tag, with Serial Number 1814053.
- Blum’s overseas cap, no insignia or name.
- Blum’s original Victory Medal with Ypres-Lys, Meuse-Argonne, and Defensive Sector bars, completely correct for Blum. The medal is missing the brooch and the edge of the ribbon is fraying.
- Blum’s American Legion Medal.
- Two 37th Division veteran’s medals, one for the 1929 pilgrimage to France and Belgium, and the other for the Veterans’ Association, although the ribbon and brooch of this example are very worn and have detached.
- Two Captured German medals, a Bavarian 9-year Service Medal and an Austrian-issued Pro Deo et Patria medal planchet, missing the ribbon and brooch. Certainly captured by Blum.
- Blum’s overseas chevron.
- A captured German postcard.
- A Six-place ribbon bar dating to the 1930s, made by George W. Studley of New York. This set does not belong to Blum, but is being included as it came with the group. The ribbons include the WWI Victory Medal with 4 stars, the French 1914-1918 Commemorative medal, the US Distinguished Service Medal, the St. Mihiel medal, the Verdun Medal, and an American Legion medal.
- A Small printout of Blum’s service history.
- A Small French studio portrait “cabinet card” of a soldier taken in Sedan. Due to the Corporal stripes, we don’t believe this to be Blum, but it is still a lovely example.
This is a lovely grouping of WWI items, most of which belonged to Blum but many which were likely added at one point, but still great valued items either way. Comes ready for further research and display!
