Original Group. One-of-a-Kind. This is a fantastic grouping to Master Sergeant Frank Dumick, who served as chauffeur and orderly to General John J. Pershing until his death, and later served as one of his pallbearers at his funeral. Besides Pershing, Dumick was also chauffeur for General Douglas MacArthur during the 40’s.
The grouping consists of a large book which appears to contain every bit of media pertaining to John Pershing’s funeral, printed on photographic paper that has begun to curl at the ends. There are countless newspaper articles and photographs in this large 13 x 18½” book!
Also included is the original fragile letter sent to Frank Dumick which requested him to be one of the pall-bearers at Pershing’s funeral. The letter is dated July 15th, 1948, and notifies Dumick of Pershing’s death, instructing him to come for the funeral and associated events.
Also included is a 4” glass coaster with Pershing’s likeness embossed with gold paint on the underside. It is Copyrighted October 1918.
Lastly is a small group of documents including two pages of written poems, and a book titled “The Song of the Seventy Five” which commemorates the 75mm field gun used by American soldiers in France during World War I.
This is an unbelievable grouping to one of the pallbearers of Pershing’s body at his funeral, and the man who was his chauffeur and orderly late into his life. Truly a one-of-a-kind group! Comes ready for further research and display.
