Original U.S. WWI Marine Corps Officer’s Army M-1911 Campaign Hat by Stetson with Early EGA Device & Chinstrap - Size 7 ⅛

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a WWI Era M-1911 Campaign Hat utilized by an officer in the Marine Corps. When World War I broke out, and the Marine Corps grew exponentially in size, there were not nearly enough P1912 Campaign hats for every man in the Corps, leading to many being issued with Army M1911 campaign hats. Included is an early USMC Eagle, Globe, Anchor (EGA) Device which is period, and correct, for the age of this hat. The EGA was on the hat when we received it, and we feel it has always been on the hat as it is pictured here. It is held on by a washer & nut.

This M1911 has the correct five rows of stitching along the brim. Some of the finish has worn off of the EGA.

The Campaign Hat is in very good condition considering its age. The leather sweatband is very weak but still complete, with some stitching loss. The original ribbon is intact on the hat, which is a rarity for hats of this age. The original chinstrap is also still intact but also quite weak. This example was manufactured by the John B. Stetson Company, the most famous and prolific manufacturer of these hats, and was retailed by Babbit & Co. of Albany, New York. There is a tag under the sweatband denoting the size, 7⅛, and the number of the hat in the contract, 18/500.
