The Story

Original Item: Only One Available. The Stonebridge Automatic Folding Candle Lantern was patented and manufactured by Charles H. Stonebridge in 1906 and quickly became one of the most popular camping equipment items of the day. In World War I it served as the U. S. Army issued Medical Corp lantern and field lantern in addition to being selected for use by the Canadian armed forces and the armies of several European nations.

This genuine U.S. WWI Army Medical Corps issue example is offered in very good condition and is constructed of galvanized steel. It is complete with all complete original translucent panels, correct markings and folds. It is maker marked on either side of the folding top panel, next to the Medical Core Caduceus insignia:

STONEBRIDGE
FOLDING LANTERN
PAT'D
NOV 20 1905 JUNE 9 1908
C.H. STONEBRIDGE MF'G CO
N.Y.C.   MADE IN
U.S.A.

The lantern is in good shape, and still has all of the rivets and seams intact. It has however been slightly bent in many areas over the years, but it retains a candle which may be period. Overall a fantastic original piece of Great War technology that was crucial for the United States Doughboys in the trenches during World War One.
