Original U.S. WWI Named 79th Division Photo Album of Signal Corps Photos with Captions - Walter Lafferty, 314th Infantry - 82 Signal Corps Photographs Total

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a lovely photo album put together by Corporal Walter Lafferty, Company E, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division. The album consists of 82 Signal Corps photographs with captions written in by Lafferty. Signal Corps photos were a collection of photographs taken during the war by the Signal Corps and reproduced for use by soldiers like Lafferty. The majority of photos are 79th Division related, with the first few being of the general officers of the division.

The album measures roughly 9½ x 12” and has some condition issues including the cover missing some material. There are two strings holding the alnum together which are working well. All photos appear to be connected and correct with corresponding captions. The interior cover is named for Lafferty and dated January 22nd, 1920, likely when the photos would have first been published and reproduced for use.

There are some great photographs in the album, and Lafferty’s captions add some great context to this set.

Lafferty was born in Willow’s Grove, Pennsylvania in 1894, and was inducted on November 3rd, 1917. He was overseas from July 8th, 1918 until May 26th, 1919 and saw combat in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive and Troyon Defensive Sector.
