The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. Once the U.S. officially joined the war in April, 1917, recruitment of volunteers became a top priority in order to amass a sizable military force without the need for a draft. Although many minority organizations eventually embraced the war in hopes of making social, economic, and political gains through public displays of patriotism, the war was much more controversial than these images suggest.

This recruitment poster for the Navy depicts a young, white sailor playing a bugle with the American flag flying to his right. He wears an M1910 Pistol belt with an attached M1910 canteen & cover.

The poster is in great shape overall with some tearing on the left side and pin-holes in all four corners. This example would look tremendous framed.

A very scarce poster, measuring in at 19 x 24¾”, ready to mount and display!

The Navy League

The Navy League of the United States, commonly referred to as the Navy League, is a national association with nearly 50,000 members who advocate for a strong, credible United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, United States Coast Guard and U.S. Merchant Marine.

It was founded in 1902, at the suggestion of Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League describes itself as "a civilian organization dedicated to the education of our citizens, including our elected officials, and the support of the men and women of the sea services and their families."
