Original U.S. WWI Navy Named U.S. Naval Aviation Flat Hat - L.E. McCormick

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous WWI U.S. Navy flat hat for a sailor serving in U.S. Naval Aviation during the war. The flat hat has a diameter of 12” and shows very heavy sunfading which means that this hat saw great wartime use.

The interior of the hat shows heavy sweatstaining along with an inscribed name:

McCormick
L.E.

Over this name marking is the same name stenciled in white paint, MCCORMICK, L.E. We have been unable to identify him, but there is more work to be done. WWI Navy is rather difficult to research, but it should be doable with some time and effort. 

There is some moth nipping as shown but the cap tally is in good shape. The original chinstrap is retained, very rare to see!
