The Story

Original Grouping. One-of-a-Kind. This is the tremendous medal grouping of Sergeant Howard Alan Shlay, Headquarters, 2nd Battalion, 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, which received credit for the Rhineland Campaign from September 15th 1944 to March 21st, 1945, and the Central Europe Campaign from March 22nd-May 11th, 1945. 

The grouping contains:
- Shlay’s Engraved Purple Heart Medal in its original presentation box with the ribbon & pin, along with the original interior packing material. WOW!
- Shlay’s Engraved Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster in its original presentation box with the ribbon & pin, along with the original interior packing material. WOW!
- Shlay’s European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with two stars in the original box. 
- Shlay’s American Campaign Medal in the original box with the ribbon. 

The unit history for the 398th Infantry lists Shlay as a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, while serving as a Private First Class in the HQ, 2nd Battalion. We couldn’t find much more information on Shlay, making for a great research project!
