Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is a lovely grouping identified to Captain Charles H. Svihra, commanding officer of the Service Battery, 793rd Field Artillery Battalion. The group includes his later issued engraved Bronze Star medal, his original Bronze Star citation paper, several other medals, documents, and a great deal of photos and ephemera.
His Bronze Star citation reads:
“Captain Charles H. Svihra, 793rd Field Artillery Battalion, U.S. Army, is awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, from 18 April 1944 to 29 November 1944, in connection with military operations against the enemy. Captain Svihra, as battalion S-4 and Commanding Officer of the Service Battery, has performed his duties with distinction. He has kept the battalion supplied as completely as the situation permits and maintained a particularly high degree of discipline and morale among his men. Captain Svihra has made an invaluable contribution to the battalion’s effort in its operations against the enemy. The outstanding leadership and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Svihra reflect great credit upon himself and the Military Service.”
