Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the extensive uniform & M41 jacket grouping of Major Charles Waldrop Sullivan, Headquarters Company, 1st Engineer Special Brigade. Sullivan landed with the 1st ESB on D-Day and received the Bronze Star Medal for service during the war. He also served on the Asiatic-Pacific front as well, making this a scarce set to a multi-front officer. The group includes his officer’s dress uniform jacket & trousers, his service shirt and trousers, his M43 Field jacket, and his officer’s visor cap. Also included is a copy of “On Hostile Shores” by Sam Daughtery, who served alongside Sullivan. There is a document shown in the back of the book which was authored by Sullivan.
The group includes:
- Sullivan’s officer’s uniform jacket with an Engineer Special Brigade patch on the left shoulder and six bullion overseas stripes on the left cuff. There is an Amphibious Engineers Seahorse patch on the left breast pocket, and a three-place ribbon bar over the left breast pocket with the Bronze Star, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign ribbon with four campaign stars and an arrowhead, and the Asiatic-Pacific campaign medal with two stars. There are bullion Major ranks on the shoulder boards and US & Engineer officer’s collar insignia. It is a Regulation Officer’s uniform with a label dated March of 1944. The trousers are also included and they match the jacket well.

- Sullivan’s M43 Field Jacket with an Engineer Special Brigade patch on the left shoulder and an Amphibious Engineers Seahorse patch on the left breast. There are Major rank patches on the shoulder boards. There is no name on the interior. The zipper is marked TALON.
- 2 Officer-piped garrison caps, no insignia. an Engineer Special Brigade patch on the left shoulder and six gold tape overseas stripes on the left cuff, with Major & Engineer castle pins on the collar. Marked as VALOR by Jackson Raymond Co., Inc. Trousers are also included and match the shirt well. The trousers are initialed C.W.S. for Charles Waldrop Sullivan.Â
- Sullivan’s WWII Officer’s visor cap with the scarce wrap-around chinstrap, by Society Brand Headwear of St. Louis, Missouri. Marked Size 7 â…ś. Sweatband is detaching.Â
- Sullivan’s equipment bag which is stenciled to the side C.W. SULLIVAN / 0304759. There are two old hangers in the bag. The bag is marked as a SERVICE-PAK.
- Copy of “On Hostile Shores” by Sam Daughtery with a bookmark marking the page where Sullivan’s document is.
- Laminated order showing Sullivan’s awarding of the Bronze Service Arrowhead for the invasion on D-Day.Â
- Printed research on Sullivan including a photo from his yearbook and his obituary.Â
Charles Waldrop Sullivan was born on February 25th, 1912 in Smith County, Mississippi. He graduated with a degree in Agricultural Education and joined the Army during World War II, becoming an Engineer and being commissioned as an officer. He went overseas with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 1st Engineer Special Brigade, and landed with them on D-Day, earning an invasion arrowhead. He saw all combat with the unit and later served as its adjutant. He also saw service on the Asiatic-Pacific front during World War II, which requires further research! He passed away on July 25th, 1991 at the age of 79.
