Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is an outstanding uniform set identified to Joseph F Biegay Jr., Company A, 38th Engineer Combat Battalion, which landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6th, 1944. The group comes with a printed page from the American D-Day website which does confirm that Biegay was on Omaha Beach that day. The uniform came with the attribution to Biegay, and the laundry number B-5338 in the garrison cap confirms the identification!
The Ike jacket has an Engineer Special Brigade patch on the left sleeve, Staff Sergeant chevrons on both sleeves, 4 overseas stripes and a service stripe on the left cuff, and US & Engineer collar discs. There is an Amphibious Engineer Seahorse patch on the left breast pocket, and a Presidential Unit Citation with frame over the right breast pocket. Above this is a Ruptured Duck honorable discharge patch. There are four ribbons over the left breast pocket including the French Croix de Guerre (incorrect WWI ribbon), Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 4 campaign stars and an invasion arrowhead. There is a French fourragère cord on the left shoulder. The interior shows light wear and there is a tag in the interior pocket with a contract date of May 30th, 1944. There is also a size tag, 36R.Â
The included Garrison cap has an Amphibious Engineer Seahorse patch and red & white piping, correct for engineers! The interior has a laundry number stamp, B-5338, which confirms the attribution and identifies the uniform to Biegay.Â
This is a lovely uniform set with a good attribution, ready for further research and display.
