The Story

Original Item. Only One Available. The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota (RAF designation) is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II. During the war the C-47 was used for troop transport, cargo, paratrooper, for towing gliders and military cargo parachute drops. The C-47 remained in front-line service with various military operators for many years. It was produced in approximately triple the numbers as the larger, much heavier payload Curtiss C-46 Commando, which filled a similar role for the U.S. military.

This is a very interesting piece of a Douglas C-47, that being the Auxiliary exit window found on either side of the aircraft. The window retains the original AUXILIARY EXIT lever which still functions, and some of the original canvas straps attached to the top and bottom. The entire window measures roughly 21½ x 23½ x 5”.

The window itself is partially obstructed by what is likely an overpaint, and we are unsure when this would have been painted. The exterior side has a label reading:

CUT HERE
FOR EMERGENCY RESCUE

The paint on this side appears to be original. The interior side has the lever with the lock and unlock decals in the proper places, with EXIT RELEASE stenciled to its side.

This is a really phenomenal piece that will fit well into any WWII aviation collection. Comes ready for further research and display!
