Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. At first glance, we assume this was one of many "Theater Made" fighting knives deployed mostly in the Pacific theater of WWII. However, once we removed the scabbard it was clear that this fighting knife began life as a WWI Model 1918 Trench Knife, and then was modified for WWII use by removing the entire hilt and replacing it. The crossguard and pommel appear to be handmade, with a stacked transparent grip.
The knife is in fair shape with the blade having been sharpened a few times, with normal wear to the hilt and crossguard.Â
The sheath is a 1943-Dated example by Boyt which is in rough shape with the securing strap having been broken. There is heavy wear across the sheath.
A good example of a WWI Trench knife that saw further service through modification. Ready to display!
Dimensions:
Blade length: 6 1/4”
Blade style: Double Edged Dagger
Overall length: 10 3/4”
Crossguard: 2 7/8”
Scabbard length: 12¾”
