Original Items. One-of-a-Kind Group. This is the lovely uniform and helmet grouping of Private First Class John Joseph Kaluzne, Service Company, 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. Kaluzne was wounded in action as indicated by his Purple Heart, and fought in one major campaign, earning one star with an invasion arrowhead on his campaign medal. The group includes his uniform jacket, shirt, tie, his fixed bale front seam M1 Helmet, and a lovely partial 29th ID travel map.
The group includes:
- Kaluzne’s WWII Ike jacket with 29th Infantry Division with lovely chainstitched insignia. There is a 29th ID patch on the left shoulder, PFC chevrons on both sleeves, three overseas stripes and a service stripe on the left cuff, and a Meritorious Unit Citation on the right cuff. There are US & Infantry collar discs, and one 175th Infantry Regiment DI on one collar, while the other is missing. There’s a Presidential Unit Citation with a frame over the right breast pocket. Over the left breast pocket is a five-place ribbon bar with the Euro-ME-African Campaign Medal with one campaign star and an invasion arrowhead, the Purple Heart, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Above this is a lovely likely-Sterling Combat Infantryman Badge.
- Kaluzne’s fixed bale front seam M1 Helmet with 135A heat stamp for 1942 manufacture. Stamped brass khaki chinstrap. Firestone liner with KALUZNE written on suspension. Liner chinstrap is intact but worn. A fantastic worn early helmet absolutely worn overseas by Kaluzne.
- Kaluzne’s Army shirt and tie.
- The Mightiest Army cover signed by Kaluzne with address and D Day.
- SHAEF Newspaper dated May 8th, 1945 in German.Â
- 21¾ x 16” 29th ID travel map with Kaluzne signed in bottom right. Cut off on left side.
John Joseph Kaluzne was born on October 26th, 1914 in Johnstown, PA. He first enlisted in the Army on December 7th, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was bombed, with serial number 33109301. He was assigned to the Service Company, 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. He served overseas from May 3rd, 1944 until October 10th, 1945, seeing action in one major campaign and invasion before being wounded. He was discharged on October 22nd, 1945. He passed away on September 27th, 1982 at the age of 67.
